Summary:
(Day shift only- no overnights, weekends or holidays) Under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy and/or Staff Pharmacists, the Pharmacy Technician or Trainee is responsible for general distribution activities, including but not limited to, computer order entry, medication order fill, preparation of intravenous admixtures, parenteral nutrition, floor stock and Omnicell filling, medication rounds and drug ordering and procurement activities, or other duties as assigned.
A person may be designated as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee for no more than one year and the requirements for registration as a pharmacy technician must be completed within the one year period.
Minimum Qualifications, Education and
Experience:
A minimum of one year hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
IV Certification Required Reporting Relationship Director of Pharmacy License and Certifications:
Pharmacy technicians must be registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).
What you will do (Roles and Responsibilities):
Replaces medication used (floor stock) in all patient care areas in a timely and accurate manner.
Replaces emergency & non-emergency medication trays with appropriate documentation.
Replaces medication with no expired medication.
Security lock for emergency crash carts provided immediately upon request.
Processes STAT/NOW medication orders completely in a timely manner.
Performs or assists in distribution; must be checked by registered pharmacist before leaving pharmacy.
Promotes safe medication dispensing.
Repackages bulk drugs in unit dose packages and maintains proper documentation in repackaging records.
Performs monthly medication and pharmacy unit inspection as scheduled.
Prepares IV admixtures using correct aseptic technique with correct labeling and mixing of IV batch.
Accurately records refrigerator temperatures and makes adjustments if appropriate.
Accurately charges & credits patient bills.
Able to accurately complete cart exchanges including crediting patients.
Reconciles overrides and narcotic discrepancies.
Participates in special projects and additional duties as required.
Accurately restocks Omnicell.
Performs general housekeeping duties in the pharmacy that includes counter cleaning, shelf dusting, cleaning all refrigerators, and keeping all work areas clean.
Answers telephone and takes appropriate action (transfers, page, takes message, fulfills requests).
Performs billing procedures as required.
Files patient records and other paperwork as required.
Responsible for implementing and following all Pharmacy DNV standards.
