Summary of Role:

This position will be responsible for delivering all aspects of the Supplier Quality Assurance function that ranges from supplier audits, product qualification and quality sustaining activities. Focusing on a variety of products for Balance of Systems (inverters plus other electrical and mechanical products), this person will work in a cross-functional team environment and with suppliers to ensure that supplied components will follow new product introduction protocols, improve supplier capability and ensure continuity of supply of high-quality components into the RLC and CVAR business units. In the event of product failures, this position will be responsible for facilitating systematic problem-solving methods to determine the root causes and provide feedback on corrective actions proposed by suppliers.

Essential Duties &
Responsibilities:

  • Overall in-charge of quality programs for Balance-of-Systems (BOS) products, which include inverters, electrical and mechanical components.
  • Lead supplier qualification activities together with internal teams in performing QMS and product audits at supplier factory sites.
  • Lead supplier product qualification plans (PQP) to ensure intensive qualification of products prior to approval for mass production.
  • Work with Design and Product Engineering to define critical-to-quality process parameters to be monitored at supplier factories
  • Support NPI and FAI activities to ensure that suppliers can meet product and field quality requirements.
  • Assess supplier capabilities and ensure alignment to SunPower s on-boarding requirements for new suppliers.
  • Review Control Plans, FMEA and Statistical Process Control results of suppliers to ensure alignment to drawings and/or product specifications; assess viability and soundness of suppliers current protocols and drive improvement actions, as necessary.
  • Promote problem-solving culture via 8D process; work intensively with suppliers in defining root causes of failures through 5Why Analysis, DOEs, fault-tree analysis, etc; define corrective action plan and validate effectiveness of such actions in order to prevent recurrence of issues.
  • Monitor performance of suppliers using key performance indicators and drive improvements in product performance, as necessary.
  • In the event of failures in the field, interface with Field Quality personnel and escalate technical issues to suppliers using the Non-Conforming Product process.
  • Serve as key point-of-contact for supplier process and product changes, ensure compliance to PCN and ECR/ECO approval protocols.

Minimum
Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering and 5
    years of related experience or M.S. Degree and 3
    years or Ph.D. 2
    years
  • OR equivalent combination of education and years of related experience
  • Intensive experience in high-volume manufacturing or field applications engineering, preferably dealing with inverter and/or electronic products; at least 5 years of which as a Supplier Quality Engineer.
  • In-depth experience in the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).

Essential
Qualifications:

  • Diverse knowledge of multiple manufacturing processes (Surface Mount Technology, semiconductor assembly, electro-mechanical assembly, wiring, etc.)
  • Intensive ability in understanding product drawings, specifications and correlating potential product failure modes to product design and manufacturing processes.
  • Proven ability in leading the resolution of complex product failures through 8D problem-solving.
  • Familiar with statistical process control and statistical analysis software (JMP, Minitab, etc.)

Preferred
Qualifications:

  • Some experience in solar field construction preferred.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Able to travel up to 25%
  • Able to visit and audit supplier factories domestically and internationally.
