Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use. Scope of Position:
o Provide mechanical design of precision molded parts and sheet metal components according to customer requirements. o Analyze the design concept with tolerancing, modeling and simulation, identify design risks with failure mode analysis and provide reliable solutions using advanced problem solving and analytical techniques to design for manufacturing. o Remain current on new materials, product development, fabrication and manufacturing process and mechanical design technologies in order to help improve the speed, effectiveness and value of product development. o Provide design documentation to communicate experiences and findings in technical reports, to protect innovation in patent applications, to order rapid prototypes or/and to support customer presentations and demonstrations. o Collaborate in a team of design engineers with diverse technical expertise working on multiple design and development projects. o Collaborate with project team members from multiple technical disciplines located in different domestic and global locations. o Mentee under one or more experienced design engineer to understand design practices, technologies, terminology and systems. Day to Day
Responsibilities:
o Conceptualize mechanical design solutions for new development and improvement projects. o Create mechanical designs to meet a set of functional requirements. o Collaborate with other development engineers to translate design concepts into detailed designs that can be prototyped and manufactured. o Provide high-level and detailed 3D CAD models and drawings suitable for:
o Concept presentation to customers o Analytical evaluation (modeling) o Patent applications o Technical reports or publications o Cost or manufacturability analysis o Research externally published fundamentals, new designs (competitor products and patents) and manufacturing processes. o Develop and maintain accurate notes and records for future reference. o Report weekly on achievements and next actions. o Assist development teams in other areas necessary to maintain project timelines and to complete projects. Travel Requirements:
o Approx. 10-15% travel (with some international), plus frequent active collaboration with multiple domestic and global locations via telecommunication. Education and
Experience:
o Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering field o Minimum of 8-10 years' experience in design of precision components (plastic molded /sheet metal/machined) o Proficient in 3D CAD design and modeling using CAD software package o Demonstrated experience leading teams/mentoring other personnel o Demonstrated ability to create high-precision mechanical designs with an understanding of the underlying engineering principles. o Demonstrated ability to understand and solve challenging technical problems. o Sound understanding of material properties, capabilities, and applications. Required Skills:

Desired Skills:
o Experience with PTC CREO and/or Unigraphics NX CAD Software Packages o Experience in New Product Development and stage gate process o Familiar with product life cycle management software system (e.g. Windchill or eNovia) o Familiarity of precision molding and machining processes. o Experience with machining & prototyping equipment (e.g. lathe, mill, sheet metal processing, 3D Printer, & benchtop equipment) o Experience in design & evaluation of sealed enclosure systems. o Familiarity with the processes of patent research and applications
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
Mechanical EngineeringEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
