This position works in the technical services department of the Talking Book Program, a division of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
The department comprises bibliographic control, cataloging, interlibrary loan, collection development, acquisitions, and automation.
Primary duties of this position include:
interlibrary loan, copy and original cataloging, bibliographic control, serials management, and testing of new or updated automated functions in the Talking Book Program's automated library database system, WebReads.
Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL TASKS Perform copy and original cataloging of audio, Braille, and large print formats to facilitate access through the integrated library system database and an online bibliographic cataloging database.
Perform bibliographic control functions on cataloging records, including maintenance of series on bibliographic records.
Process interlibrary loan requests.
Assist in collection development for adding new titles to the collection, verifying delivery of materials, and weeding Manage local and NLS serial publications in WebReads Assist automation programming staff in the preparation and testing of automated functions May process and prepare library materials, including preparation for binding or binding and basic repairs Report statistics and creates monthly activity reports.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
Complies with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety, dress code, and standards of conduct.
Qualifications Veterans, Reservist or Guardsmen with an MOS or additional duties that fall in the fields no applicable MOS for Library Assistant or other related fields pertaining to the minimum experience requirements may meet the minimum qualifications for this position and are highly encouraged to apply.

pdf MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited master's degree program.
One year experience working in library acquisitions, automation, or cataloging.
Experience using a personal computer and standard software packages Ability to handle heavy workloads requiring attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to perform highly technical procedures.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of standard computer-assisted search theories and techniques.
Ability to sit quietly at computer workstation working independently for long periods.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Work experience in reader's advisory, reference work, interlibrary loan, or collection development, Work or volunteer experience within an automated library system.
Experience using a bibliographic cataloging database, such as WorldCat (OCLC).
Work or volunteer experience in a talking book program environment.
Experience working with specialized populations, such as the disabilities community.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel Reading ability in Spanish.
Reading ability in other languages.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS Complete college transcripts must be submitted.
SUPERVISION Reports to Director, Talking Book Program; works under team leadership of the Administrator, Automation and Collections.
This position does not supervise any staff.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
