Travis County, TX Travis County, TX Full-time Full-time $58,113 - $72,641 a year $58,113 - $72,641 a year 6 days ago 6 days ago 6 days ago Job Summary Responsible for handling and reviewing various evidence-based forensic media that may include but is not limited to video digital multimedia and responding to open records requests, subpoenas, litigation, and preservation letters on behalf of the Law Enforcement Forensics Services Division of Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO).
The primary duties of the position include but are not limited to; preserving and enhancing data from electronic data sources, such as video, audio, and photos; acquiring/exporting video from various software platforms in response to video record requests; researching and tracking the source of video in response to requests from Law Enforcement and other TCSO personnel.

This is a job classification within the Public Safety/Emergency Management job family.
Specialists in this classification perform forensic digital media (including video, audio, and photo) examinations and redactions.
This classification may require a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of the department.
This classification may require work in secure facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities Preserves and provides expert review of data from electronic data sources, including hardware, network servers, and mobile devices to ensure the evidential integrity of the data is not compromised; prepare, maintain, and safeguard all file documentation, reports, and materials.
Conducts forensics processes, acquisitions, extractions, and examinations of digital media evidence; creates forensic images; creates working copies of evidence for case agents; maintains evidentiary chain of custody and property controls; retrieves evidence from analog and digital systems, both in lab and at off-site locations.
Applies forensic best practices and reports detailed findings to assist investigators, prosecutors, or legal counsel in preparation of court proceedings.
Attends and receives briefings on assigned investigations; provides options and recommendations pertaining to forensic digital evidence collection and support.
Provides expert testimony in trials, and other proceedings.
Occasionally provides advice, assistance, and instruction to detectives and other law enforcement personnel.
Monitor and remain up to date with all legislative and judicial actions that impact forensic media evidence operations, including court decisions, legislative initiatives, and conflicting legal statutes.
Provide specialized technical work in the clarification/enhancement, conversion and reconstruction of audio and video evidence; conduct validation testing and performance verifications of various hardware/software tools; troubleshoot a variety of technical issues; explain complex technical concepts to nontechnical people.
Operates a variety of computer hardware and software applications to conduct forensic examinations.
Assists agency and other stakeholders with the development of policies and procedures relating to acquisition and examination of evidence from analog and digital video multimedia systems and provides routine updates to ensure policies and procedures support imaging technology, software programs, and other forensic tools.
Attends seminars, classes, or training in specialized forensic hardware and software applications, forensic techniques, and other specialized areas.

Minimum Requirements Education and
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Digital Media Forensics, Forensic Science, or closely related field AND two (2) years of experience working with review and redaction of digital evidence in a forensic laboratory or law enforcement; equivalent experience as a multi-media or digital forensic technician may be considered in lieu of a degree; OR Certification by an accredited forensic authority, such as LEVA.
(Law Enforcement and Emergency Services Video Association International) AND two (2) years of experience working with expert review of digital evidence or forensic media evidence in a forensic laboratory or law enforcement agency.
Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements:
Valid Driver's License.
Must be able to obtain CFVT/CFVA (LEVA) certification at least one year from date of hire.

Must have extensive knowledge and experience in the following areas:
Forensic Media Evidence Experience extracting data from electronic devices and software applications.
Digital video recorders (DVR) and various sources of digital storage media.
File system forensics Adobe software programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro.
Video editing and exporting.
Forensic processes and best practices; forensic tools and software.
Conducting examinations; preparing reports; and providing testimony.
Skill in:
Oral and written communication Cloud-based data management systems Evidence controls Developing and presenting structured training Editing video and audio materials Problem solving and decision-making.
Ability to:

Work Environment & Other Information Physical requirements include the ability to lift/carry up to 25-50 pounds occasionally.
Subject to visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment.
Subject to standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motion, and squatting to perform the essential functions.
Requires ability to drive and regularly view monitors.
