Micron Data Center Workload Engineering in Austin, Texas, is looking for an engineer to join our team. Understanding key workloads in the data center space is a Micron imperative, in order to improve current products in the memory and storage hierarchy, study how different data center workloads perform on the memory/storage products both in isolation and in concert and bring about a total value proposition to customers based on efficiently utilizing several Micron products. To this end, we characterize the performance of memory and flash-based media for data center applications, storage systems, and AI platforms. Roles and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and deploy data center solutions that simulate customer environments Specific focus around AI/ML, RDBMS, NoSQL, SDS, HPC, data analytics, and emerging platforms
  • Performance benchmarking of DRAM, High-bandwidth memory (HBM), GDDR, and SSD using both microbenchmarks and applications in the aforementioned areas
  • Create reference system architectures for workloads, composed of memory and storage hierarchy products
  • Automate and expand existing benchmarking capabilities to improve efficiency and repeatability
  • Demonstrate skills at instrumenting and measuring application workload requests, analyze solution performance down to memory and SSD subsystems, monitoring system resource utilization
  • Analyze system-level bottlenecks and solve issues involving virtualization technologies, distributed architectures, and complex application workload environments
  • Interpret findings and results, summarizing into standard methodologies, technical papers, and presentations to help the sales organizations better meet customer requirements
  • Work with multi-functional teams and key partners to deliver prescriptive guidance documents to position our technology products in premier data center/enterprise application environments
  • Drive continuous improvement feedback to Micron product development organizations
  • Meet project schedules with a high degree of fidelity
  • Present technical content at key industry events

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong computer systems foundations
  • Knowledge of server system memory (DRAM, HBM), storage hierarchy (SSD), and processors
  • Experience with performance analysis
  • Knowledge of AI, ML/DL frameworks and models (in vision, NLP, recommendation) and running them on CPU-GPU heterogeneous architectures
  • AI training/inference benchmarking with knowledge around the impact of model performance on memory/storage subsystems strongly sought after
  • Experience in high-performance computing (HPC) applications and storage systems
  • Experience with data center-class software and solutions; hypervisors and SDS stacks:
    VMware ESX, VSAN, Microsoft Hyper-V, Azure Stack HCI, Ceph, Docker, Linux Containers
  • Synthetic I/O characterization and related tools FIO, VMMark, vdbench, FIO, IOR, MDTest, etc.
  • Standard database benchmarking tools and methodologies; TPC-C, TPC-H, YCSB, etc.
  • Experience in data analytics applications and tools Spark
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise hardware for high-demand applications
  • Operating systems and associated internal virtual memory and storage stacks:
    Linux, VMware, Microsoft
  • Familiarity with leading scripting, programming languages, and technologies, Python preferred, other object-oriented languages acceptable
  • Familiarity with PCIe and NVLINK connectivity
  • IP network design and deployment:
    VLAN, RoCE, InfiniBand
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Education:

A bachelor s or master s degree and 5
years of experience.
