Vehicle Description 1969 Ford F100 Ranger, Short Bed SURVIVOR FOUND --- NATURAL PATINA More than three-and-half years ago, this Texas beauty was spied in a company storage yard, where she had sat for many years without an engine, transmission or drive train.
Originally from Austin's McMorris Ford Dealership, she still sports the McMorris Ford rear bumper, a common dealer option, since back then, Ford shipped most pickups without a rear bumper.
In 2017, prior to my later purchase of her, a thorough inspection showed that although she had surface rust on some areas and heavy layers of old, caked-on caliche covering all of the rest of her - outside and underneath - her body was super straight and in very good condition with only minor usage scars, scratches and only a few of the usual rust pits, but none too serious.
On much of the undercarriage, there still remained evidence of her dealer-option rust-inhibiting-undercoating.
Her bed, floors, frame, doors etc were all solid.
Stainless and chrome trim were mostly all there.
Glass was all good and she sat up level and square.
She was a survivor -- ready for some TLC.
The engine bay now proudly boasts a completely redone Ford 390 FE power plant with a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, a noticeable cam and custom stainless steel headers fitted to a stainless, hand-turned dual exhaust system.
To keep her old school flavor, she sports a solidly redone three-speed manual transmission smoothly handled by a column shifter.
(What a kick to drive a powerful V8 with a three-on-the-tree!).
A balanced and tuned custom drive shaft connects the sturdy 3.
55 rear differential through new universal joints.
She maintains her strong original drum brake system and rolls on new specifically chosen tires (including a fifth as a spare) to give a somewhat lower profile and wider control surface while maintaining a classic look.
Adding to her '60s nostalgic flavor, the wheels are treated to period-appealing 1969 Ford full size covers.
That '60s era flair and the survivor image is confirmed by the natural patina on the all-original paint finish -- inside and out and even under the hood -- of Lunar Green and Wimbledon White.
Some new pieces of bright work and badges reinforce the Ford Ranger Trim Package.
What you won't find is the typical everything-underneath-is-painted-black (which might look good, but can hide a lot); instead, she's been only cleaned and left au natural to show just how solidly she's held up with neither extensive deterioration nor rust outs.
Her cab has been stylishly redone with new dash and components, including new instrument panel, ignition switch, light switches, cargo light, dome and courtesy lighting, new dash instrument lights, correct chrome trim and an updated glove box among other appointments.
A completely new wiring harness from headlights to tail lights assures that gauges function properly and all switches and systems work correctly adding to the 1960's new feeling.
For creature comfort, a period-correct under dash Vintage AC and Heat unit has been added along with extra sound-deadening materials placed beneath new correct loop style carpeting.
Original sun visors have been redone and the original bench seat has been meticulously re-imagined, displaying the original styling patterns along with the original chrome buttons hand-sewn into heavy gauge new-style soft vinyl and features textured inserts finished correctly with matching piping throughout.
The interior is finished off with new Ranger Trim door panels and chrome accents.
Slide into the cabin and you'll likely feel that you've been transported back to the '60sbut, with more style and comfort.
She recently passed state inspection (good through April 2022), has genuine registered 1969 Texas Truck tags and comes with a clear Texas title.
All work performed by a Certified Master Re-builder/Mechanic.
She's ready to get back on the roaddrive her anywhere and enjoy the admiration of anyone who sees her! This rare combination of style, character, nostalgia, comfort and dependability will only help her continue to increase in value as the years rock on.
